St. John's

We are in St. John's, NF.  It's a beautiful city on the water.  We found a great deal; we are staying in  dorm at the University.  As we wandered around campus, trying to find where to check in, we found a cafeteria open.  We went in and asked the server.  He said he didn't know, but he would find out for us and then he offered us dinner!  His supervisor came out and asked what we wanted to drink.  So we had cod au gratin, potatoes, and Pepsi.  No charge!  Our room has a double bed, access to TV, wifi, and showers.  Walking distance to downtown.  Last night we walked to The Rooms museum, which is free on Wednesday nights.  It is a beautiful building with art, archives and stuffed animals from the area, including a polar bear.
Miss you all...the ferry leaves Saturday, if it is running...let's hope!
Love,
Therese and Doug

The Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.  We did it!  300 k of the toughest biking we've ever done.  The Cascades and the Rockies were far easier!  We had 13% grades, scary downhills, winds of 60 mph, rain, fog and some sun!  The scenery was breath taking, the people were very kind.
I'll add photos when I figure it out.  It took us 5 days.  Day 1 were biked 38 miles and stayed with a warm showers host, Rosie, a biologist for the National Park.  Great.  Then we biked over Smokey Mtn and camped at a beautiful spot in Cape North, 50 miles.  Day 3 we biked over North Mtn, had high winds and ended early in Pleasant Bay, 23 miles.  We stayed at a hostel there.  Day 4 we biked over McIntosh and one other mtn in driving rain and fog.  Met a nice guy at the Park visitor center.  He suggested his campground 30 some miles away.  We made it there and he and his partner cooked us stir fry and rice and gave us cold beers!
We're off to Newfoundland tomorrow.  It's a 6 hour ferry ride.

The end of the road!

We did it! We have completed our trek from Minnesota to Maine. We rode 1920 miles, with only one flat tire, and one set of disc brakes. Highlights were Niagra Falls, Brandon Gap in VT, Kancamangus Hwy in NH and riding with Jeff. We met so many nice people along the way and we had so many spontaneous stays. It is getting hotter, so we are glad to be done. We'll be staying with family in Maine for a week before we take the train from Boston home on July 26.
Thanks to all who helped us along the way. We are grateful for the meals, beds, conversation, and wishes for our safety.
We'll post pictures soon.
Love to all,
Doug and Therese

Maine!

We are in Fryeburg Maine! We're headed straight to Dover-Foxcroft where Doug's family lives. Decided to skip the busy coast. Too much traffic and too narrow of roads. That means we have to "wing it" with the maps. No more Adventure Cycling maps. We think we have 3 more days!
Love to all,
Therese and Doug
